ReplyDeleteChild Psychology
Math can be used in child psychology in the following ways:
-Used for psychological tests, with numbers interpreted as percentiles, averages, median, and means.
-Measuring IQ’s of children, as well as child development and learning in humans and some animals.
-Analysis of results in a large groups of children.
-To demonstrate the use of statistical data collected from subjects to support their original hypothesis.
Although there is not an exact amount of math that is needed for you to go into the field of psychology, many suggest that if you want to go into child psychology that you take such courses as Basic and Applied Statistics, Basis Social Statistics, Introduction to Statistical Analysis, and Statistics in Behavioral Research. As you see, statistics is the main math portion of child psychology, because statistics will help a psychologist to measure general properties of groups and measuring psychological tests. Statistics can help a psychologist come to draw inferences or conclusions. Statistics are used many times to see in a placebo test, if the results swayed toward a particular group.
I have never liked Math and it has never been my strong suit. I prefer literature and history based classes. However, I was able to come this far and know much about the world of math. It is a complicated structure, and it has taught me that a certain number can throw the whole problem out of proportion. This is applied to psychology, because a psychologist looks for such odd numbers and tries to figure out how they were received and try to average the other numbers in the same range. Even the smallest mistake, can take down a whole psychological experiment and sway the results towards a conclusion that is not valid.
Careers for child psychology to be had in Connecticut are numerous. Yale is offering a job at this moment for a Child Life Specialist (promoting best development of infants, children and adolescents. Full time with benefits.) There is a job for a Clinical Therapist at The Children’s Center of Hamden ($22 an hour). Another is in Hartford as an Early Care & Education Mental Health Consultant (assists in developing strategies for children to reach their full potential by addressing children’s developmental needs and behavioral interactions.). Many jobs for psychologists in general are out there.

ReplyDeleteNursing Career
Various math courses are required to obtain a degree in nursing. There are different degrees in nursing and each require different courses in math. Most colleges require basic algebra and statistics to become a Licensed Pactical Nurse(LPN). To obtain higher degrees like a Bachelor of Science degree or a Master of Science degree in nursing more math is neccesary, like fundamental math and finite math. Most of the other requirements to obtain a nursing degree focus on psychology and science but math is used often in nursing. Everday, nurses measure and calculate medication and do dosage calculations, and it is extremely important that they do that correctly. On a regular basis they are dealig with division, percentages, and ratios so algebra is an important requirement. Nurses are also analyzing patient data which is why statistics is required.
Math courses in high school are also important. Most nursing schools require that a student complete an algebra 2 course in high school. Without that a person would probably not be accepted into a schools nursing program.
I have never been that good at math, but the main math required in nursing is algebra, and if I had to pick a favorite section of math that would be it. While researching the field of nursing I read that other math like calculus and geometry is not really used in nursing, which I was glad to hear because geometry was my worst subject.

ReplyDeleteFashion Merchandising
In order to become a fashion merchandiser you need to learn how to manufacture, promote, and sell clothes and accessories. Math plays a big roll in doing all of this. Math is used with promotions, markdowns, and clearance. You need math skills to figure out how to lure customers in to buying your product (with sales) but do so that you are still making a profit. Statistics and probability is used to survey the money your customers are able and willing to pay. If your store is in a town where everyone is millionaires, the merchandiser's budget will allow them to buy more expensive things than if the store was in a town where everyone was unemployed.
Previous math courses that have prepared me to reach my career goal are algebra one and algebra two. These courses have tought me how to manipulate situations. Also, to think of the equation as a real life situation. In algebra two we also learned how to figure out how much a product will cost after the sale discount and a coupon discount is taken off.
Halpful high school math courses are calculus, statistics, and business math. In order to obtain this career, the math requirements during college are accounting, merchandising math applications, mathematics of retailing, finance and probability and statistics. Some typical major courses which use math skills are fashion buying, sales, fashion business, merchandise planning and control, and fashion merchandising.
Employment is expected to increase an average of 9 to 17 percent through 2014.

The math need for this carrer path is Calculus
Calc II
Calc III
Differential Equations
Probability and Statistics
The reason for all of this math is that you need to write programs, hardware, software. When writing these you need to predict variables, and other problems that your programs, software, hardware might encounter. You need stats and probability to see how often certain problems happen or the chance of some thing happening down the line. Also when writing these programs some run on time or to completion or many other things always included math.
Child psychologist
ReplyDeleteInorder to become a psychologist everyone in college must take a full semester of Statistics. To obtain a strong basis of Statistics colleges encourage to take classes such as Introduction to Statistical Analysis Basic and Applied Statistics, Basis Social Statistics, and Statistics in Behavioral Research. Usually, one course in Statistics is required for a bachelor's degree in child psychology.
When doing my research I came across and realized that in order to become a child psychologist one must take courses in developmental psycholgy as well as experimental psychology. In developmental psychology what you do is gather data through observation, interviews, tests, and experimental methods. Principal topics include language acquisition and development, motor skills, personality development, and social, emotional, and intellectual growth. So, the math that is being used here would be:
- averages,means,medians,modes and IQ's as well.
And in experimental psychology it's a full year class which uses alot of statistics throughout the year in order to try to findout solutions to their experiments which can help explain their hypothesis.
Previous and current math courses will prepare me to reach my career goal because when I am finally elgible to look for a job like working at a clinic center for children, I will be able to apply all the statistics and courses that I have taken to help me better the life of other children in need of my assistance.
As for jobs the percentage in need for child psychologists grows every where from clinics to counseling offices, health centers ,and much more.

ReplyDeleteSince I am interested in the mass media, I would like to become a TV reporter or a news anchor. To be successful in this profession, I would have to complete broadcast journalism and communications courses. In addition, I would have to take statistics and algebra courses. These math courses will allow me to become familiar with facts and figures and I'll be able to understand any equations I would have to report. Plus, I have learned that local news reporters annually do not receive a large salary, so it would be nice if I could take care of simple personal financial business on my own. Of course, math is used in daily life when children are involved.
Although it is difficult to land a job in television, with persistance and a lot of luck, anything is possible!
- Child Psychologist
ReplyDeleteIn order to become a psychologist for children, the courses required are biological, physical, and social sciences as well as courses in statistics and mathematics and basic psychology. A student will receive supervised clinical training and experience as well. The law requires that to become a psychologist a person must have a doctoral degree in either psychology or education. A sound understanding of statistics would help you understand much of what you can expect to study and it helps to support their original hypothesis. Whereas you don't need to much math in order to pursue this career, but you might need to know the basics.
- Algebra isn't a requirement for the psychology field therefor i can't say it has helped me for the career that i'm looking into. When i do take statistics my senior year i'm sure in some way that will help because it is a requirement to successfully becoming a psychologist.

ReplyDeleteWay mechanic’s use math
- to see what size wrench, socket etc is needed to take off a bolt.
- To calculate torque
- Measure hoses and clamps
- Front end aliments
- Reading tools
There is really no set math classes that you need to take to become an auto mechanic but you do need to know math. The math that auto mechanic’s need is not very difficult math but it’s more of simple math that is used to convert measurements from the America to metric measurements. So you the math you need to become is auto mechanic is measurements, adding subtracting, multiplying, dividing and all of the simple math.
The classes that I would need to take to become a mechanic is an algebra course and a basic math course. You would need these so that you are able to use equations and other forms of math. These courses will strengthen your math abilities so that you are able to do this math very easily without much thought.

Algebra 2
Stats
As a police officer you need to use math in many ways. You need to be able to measure skid marks left on the road to determine who is at fault in some accidents. Need to be able to use math while writing tickets. For example - for speeding tickets, it is $70 and then $2 for every mph you are going over the speed limit. This math needs to be done quickly while the driver waits in their car. To find the amount of other tickets, police officers use linear equations. Forms of math are used to figure out trajectory of bullets and point of impact in car accidents. You also need math strategies to pass the exams needed to become a police officer.

Broadcast/ Journalism
Sports broadcasting/ Journalism involves math in many different ways.
- Calculating statistics, and overall averages of players and teams
- Determining time in between the game to air commercials and other sponsors of the network
- Creating a rundown of the whole program (how long each segment takes) a basic overview or layout for the whole show that states times and durations.
- Calculating percentages such as Batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, pass completions and much more.
- Determining final time of game and box scores for each time that states what the score was for certain times during the game.
- Determining time for interview segments during the broadcast.
Broadcast Journalism, you would think does not involve a lot of mathematic skills. However that is a huge part of the field. To calculate scores for each team basic math skills such as addition and subtraction are used. These are basic math skills that are mainly needed for box scores and final scores for the game. However, more advanced math skills are necessary in order to calculate percentages such as batting averages, slugging percentages, on base percentages and certain completions or situation percentages. Such as how often a player gets a hit with men on base or how often a player scores a touchdown per game. These are determined by using more advanced skills in math such as statistics and probability along with multiplication and division. Also time duration of how long the broadcasters have to be on the air in order to include commercials and other company sponsors that need to be aired. Math is very important in this particular field. If you mess up once you can distort and miscalculate overall averages that need to be recorded for the future. And combined with the past games in which the team and or player participated in.
Throughout my school education I have taken many math classes. However, in middle school the skills needed were basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and some exponents. When I reached high school math became much harder because more advanced math skills were needed. I have taken classes such as Algebra 1 my freshman year, Geometry my sophomore year, and this year I am taking Algebra 2. I have always found math to be very challenging, I have never excelled much in math my freshman or sophomore years. I found Algebra to be very hard to comprehend, however I made due with the knowledge I had and have moved on to my Algebra 2 class today. I am very interested in acquiring a job in this field. I have the basic math skills to succeed as well. I would benefit very much from taking a statistics course to learn more about probability. This would no bout help me in the future and be a huge benefit in the field.
There are many schools that are great for majoring in the Broadcast Journalism field. The most praised college for Broadcast/ Journalism majors and undoubtedly Quinnipiac University. Although many other colleges offer great communication majors, Quinnipiac is the best in Connecticut. They offer Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Adv. Broadcast Journalism and many more classes to help further studies in writing and media. They have a whole facility dedicated to news reporting and other communicative studies. Math courses needed in order to obtain a degree in Broadcast/ Journalism include General College Math I, General College Math II, and if possible a Statistics course would be very helpful and beneficial. There are also many job opportunities that include internships for many sports such as college baseball, football, and or hockey. There are even some intern opportunities at major sports networks that include Sports NY, or even ESPN. Even though most of these internships are unpaid, they prove to give u the necessary knowledge and experience with the equipment and people in the field. There are many opportunities out there and much experience to be gained.

Music Education
Some colleges(i.e. University of Missouri) require that you have a business course in order to become a music major(b/c if you go inton music publishing, you need to have a backgorund on business math(for sales etc.) Also, you at least need to know how to count, add, divide, and multiply because many things in music require you to know how many beats to add to somthing, how many to take away, and how many there are in a measure.)
Not many colleges require math to become music majors, but you can see, you at least need to know basic math(adding subtracting, etc.) But the courses colleges do require are Music Theory(at mult. levels), concer band, and musical performance.
I want to become a music major because music has always been a part of my life and as i grew up, i would always see the high school band and many other marching groups perform and i just loved the big sound. Ever since, I've wanted to become a music majorm and hopefully let that make me succeed in life!!!

ReplyDeleteregistered nurse
In order to become an RN you must complete a 2-4 year nursing program depending on what degree you would like to obtain. (a bachelor's of science degree in nursing (BSN), an associate degree in nursing (ADN), and a diploma.) All nursing education programs include classroom instruction and supervised clinical experience in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Students take courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, psychology and other behavioral sciences, and nursing. The math classes i've taken already and algebra 2 has helped me develop skills needed for the training i'm in now to become a nurse. In college i will need to further my math courses to be eligible for my RN license. Math is used everyday in health care facilities by all nurses. Basic math like adding and subtracting is commonly used to measure intake and output of patients daily and measure fluids together such as meds. The demand for nurses has greatly increased and I hope the math courses i take in college will help me succeed to become a successful RN.
Occupational Therapist needs math in successfully completed courses in math and etc. These courses will provide the background necessary to be successful in this field. Plus to gain valuable work experience by volunteering in a rehabilitation hospital stroke treatment facility, or senior citizen home. THIS IS LIZ FRANCOIS BTW

Algebra 2 Math Careers
In order to become a nurse or a cosmetologist/barber you need to know math in a few ways. Being a nurse you need many math skills in order to do the job right. You need to know how to use math when you take care of the medications, data, equipment, specialties, and even in the laboratory. For medication, nurses need to figure out the right amount of medication a patient needs, how their blood pressure is regulating within the hourly basis, and calculate the right measurement of a persons fluid and calorie intake. When using equipment, nurses have to use electronic devices like ECG machines and more which require math involved when calculating the final results. Finally, when working in the laboratory, they need to know how to convert units for doctors and finding results of blood cell levels that involves simple arithmetic. You need to know conversion factors, dimensional analysis. In order to become a cosmetologist, or barber you need to know basic algebra which requires decimals, percents, and customary measurements. Another math topic you need to know is geometry; which involves basic terminology, and angle measurements. Finally, you should know other topics such as group problem solving. Some previous math courses that I took that would help me become one of these are when I took algebra 1, 2, and geometry. In these courses I learned equations that related to real-life situations to figure out, and angle measurements that would be helpful when cutting hair.

ReplyDeleteStatistics is needed to go into the field of child psychology. Colleges recommend you take one full semester of statistics. The course will help you to interpret things and make conclusions and observations. The course will also help you observe the different relationships and characteristics of the child. The psychologist reflects on behavior and patterns to figure out how to help the child. psychology, and biological sciences are also courses needed to be successful in the career.

How math is used in becoming a chef
u use fractions to measuring cups for certain things. u need to no wat size measuring cups to use. Yea and so on. But some math classes u need to take to become a chef are just like basic math and to just no fractions like how to add and subtract them.
when becoming a nurse math helps in many ways in this job. For example the measurements of medicine a patient may need, even the data you collect. You need the basics of how to convert units for when your dealing with DNA in the lab.Algebra 2 helps the nurses in training. Nurses are an important part of the community. Math and science are specific courses that need to be taken if looking into following a career as a nurse. You need to take courses such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, psychology and other behavioral sciences, and nursing. With math it makes it simplier for nurses to collect amounts of blood, check the pressure of someones blood. Although the math seems simple, it is a major part of becoming a nurse.
